Ecological Solid Waste Management

The Municipal Government of Calumpit in compliance with RA 9003, is undertaking a sustainable program for Solid Waste Management since 2005. In 2005, it was undertaken in all the 29 barangays of Calumpit with the Barangay Ecological Solid Waste Management Board. . Then the barangays were mobilized to provide lots for the Construction of Barangay Eco Centers as their equity with the Municipal Government providing the building, solid waste supplies and equipments and the salaries of eco boys/girls. Waste segregation on individual households was emphasized and being practised with the barangay Council in charge of supervision and management of solid waste in the barangay. Bio-degradable materials is processed as compost in the barangays while non-biodegradable materials is collected by the Municipal Government once or twice a week and brought and managed at the Municipal Eco Complex. The Municipal Ecological Solid Waste Management Board (MESWAC) was created to do the supervision and task of monitoring . With this, Calumpit was awarded by the Provincial Government and the Dangal ng Bulakan Foundation as the Most Environmental Friendly Municipality in the celebration of Environment Month in the year 2007.To date, this program is the subject of Observation/Study Tours and Research from various groups in nearby towns
